Hey!
This year is almost over. I feel it's not one to celebrate, but one to mourn.
I'm working on unshelling my most vital organ, the one that keeps count for me: the heart. I've found the best method so far is loud live-music that rattles in the chest. Can't wait for the final shattering, although someone told me it's better soften the shell slowly, then peel the layers off instead of breaking it. I'll keep you posted. Bumm-bumm.

I've been working a great deal in theatre and I've quit doing self-promotion, so maybe you haven't heard too much from me. But I'm alive! I'm here! I'm ok!
Below, some information on the theatre stuff. And below that, some thoughts on the cumbersome state of the world that were currently living in together.

TROUBLE & THE WORLD
a shitshow of many years and counting
I've been a witness for many atrocities and crimes against humanity in my lifetime, but this is unprecedented. Fascist ideology and subsequent actions that make life on earth a shitshow are reappearing and aren't met with enough resistance. This is everything my education has warned me about. Year after year I end up with the same questions: «What can I do?» and «What good is my art for if it can't stop that from happening?». I feel continuous, deep grief, 20 years and counting. Which raises the question; «How can I can feel this grief without it immobilizing me and find my way back to action?» Which raises the question: «What action is the most effective to change the reality of the situation?» or «In which realm can I create the most change?» and «Might it be outside the digital sphere?»
That's where I'm at now. I don't have answers (yet.)

My friends,
I spent the beginning of this fateful year as a volunteer in Greece, where currently over 70‘000 refugees are stuck with nowhere to go, with new arrivals every day. I painted some walls. I taught some english. I stared at the ocean. I took a bus. I learned some Arabic but mostly I just observed and tried to make sense of it all.

A brief insight on my thought process and more information here:
THOUGHTS (IN PROCESS)
I spent most of my time in Camp Skaramagas outside Athens, the biggest refugee camp of Greece, run by the Greek Navy. It houses around 3200 (Syrian, Afghani, Irani, Iraqi, Yemeniti, Kurdish), about half of them children. It is said to be the "best" camp; people live in containers and not tents. Some spend up to two years or more there, without work or access to regular education, or any perspective about their near future. Some can't leave because the greek police has illegally taken their passports away.
Two years ago, the EU started the "relocation programme" with the goal of relocating 160'000 people from Greece, Italy and the Balkan border across Europe. Each EU member country was to take up a certain amount of refugees (a number calculated in relation to the population of the country, how well it is doing economically and how high the unemployment rate is). As a trade off they would get 6000 Euros for each relocated person. Two years later, only about 10'000 have been relocated. Switzerland pledged to take 1500, 133 people have been taken in so far. Sweden promised 2397, only 89 have been relocated. The shameful list goes on...Meanwhile, more people have and will arrive at the outskirts of the continent.
What is evident to me after these past weeks; the reality is very far from whatever the political agenda states it to be. There is no international institution in place to deal with the people in a humane way, because they don't really want to. The EU is a trade club. To international politics, this is a game. Merkel payed 3.2 Billion to Erdogan to help "stem the migrant flow", meaning to keep them in turkey, away from our sacred continent. Erdogan passed a law last week that will keep him in power until as far as 2029. This money is in the hands of a dangerous dictator and does not go to towards the people in need. It will go towards bureaucracy and policeforces, towards criminalizing the refugees and keeping them in prisons, labelled camps.
From my impression on site, most NGO's are part of the trade club. They are busy putting their logo on things, but they wanna keep the status quo; to have refugees in a state of dependency. Everyone gets treated the same, but they are not equal. They need to queue for everything, no matter how shit it is. If they are found outside the camp after sundown, trying to have something that resembles a self-determined life, they get arrested by police.
But there is hope!
There are people down in Athens who are filling the gap that the institutions have created. Making sure people in need have food, a roof over their head, legal aid, language courses. They have squatted houses to live in (Athens is facing the highest number of homeless people since recorded history), they are running social centres and free schools. And most important of all; they are doing it with the refugees, empowering them to create change. So that some day, the division between "refugee" and "non-refugee" is obsolete. Cause ask yourself; when does a refugee stop being a refugee? When they don't have to flee anymore. When they have found a new home. When they are allowed to move freely, like the rest of us. So let's be welcoming to our future neighbours and fight together for those rights to become universal law.

I want laws that end consumerism and mass production. I want art and culture that isn‘t mass production. I want state-owned media to be more progressive and diverse. I want private owned media to be held to standards of journalism. I want to see the global music industry in the hands of musicians, not thiefs. I want advertising out of my face and a trial phase of 20 years of matriarchy worldwide. The list goes on, but it starts here.

It‘s all coming undone.
The release of ARROWHEAD had to be postponed due to some stormy weather over the pond and will be out in September. At this point I would prefer to just bury it in an archive somewhere and write “nice try” on it in shaky handwriting.

INVITATION to the ARROWHEAD IGNITION CEREMONY
